JUNE 6 ANNOUNCEMENTS THE FEAST OF PENTECOST CELEBRATED THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 9 The Feast of Pentecost, which marks the end of the season of Easter, will be celebrated on Sunday, June 9 at the 8 am and 10:15 am services. This is the occasion when we remember the gift of the Holy Spirit, the birth of the Church and the sending of the apostles into the world to proclaim the Good News of God in Christ. For this special feast: We invite you to WEAR RED in honor of the Holy Spirit. Children and youth are invited to gather at 9:45 am to create special Pentecost dove streamers to carry in the opening procession. Incense will be part of our celebration at 10:15 am. __________________________ LANEGLICANS UNITE! THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 9 This Sunday, Jeff and adwoa are gathering all who are interested for our first bowling outing together. People gathering at the church are welcome to join for Noon Prayer at twelve in the chapel. Noon prayer is a brief service of psalms, reading, and prayers from the book of common prayer. Options to carpool and/or walk to the bowling alley will be available. Others are welcome to join us at Brattleboro Bowl at 1:00. Dropping in is more than welcome. If you know you're interested, please RSVP to adwoa who is coordinating lanes. The cost for bowling is about $6 per hour per person, including shoes. If you cannot afford the full $6 cost, come and bring what you can afford as several folks have volunteered to help provide partial support. No experience or skill needed to share in the fellowship. __________________________ SUMMER PRAYER SERIES BEGINS THIS COMING TUESDAY JUNE 11, 6 - 7:30 PM The Discernment for the Layperson’s Team (DLT) invites you to a summer prayer series. Every other Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 this summer, we will come together in the Meeting Room for an evening around prayer. At each meeting, the DLT will offer an introduction to a different way to pray followed by a chance to practice. A list of each of the dates and prayer practices is in the June Guardian. This week’s topic is “Music and Prayer.” You may attend any or all of the meetings. No commitment or registration is requested. Join us in this opportunity to deepen our prayer lives. __________________________ LEMONADE ON THE LAWN BEGINS JUNE 16 PLEASE SIGN UP TO HOST During the summer, we have lemonade on the lawn in front of the church after the 10:15 service. To host “Lemonade on the Lawn,” you prepare the lemonade and boxed cookies that are provided. Then you take the cart with cups, napkins, lemonade and cookies up on the elevator from the kitchen to the lawn. At the end, you pick up any trash, take the cart back down to the kitchen, and clean up by throwing trash in the bin and returning any leftovers to the refrigerator or containers. If the weather is bad, we use the Undercroft. Find a friend, choose a Sunday this summer, and sign up in the Common Room or contact the Church office at 254-6048 or [email protected]. __________________________ PRIDE SUNDAY AT ST. MICHAEL'S JUNE 23 On June 23 at both the 8:00 am and 10:15am services at St. Michael’s, we will celebrate the fullness of the Family of God, focusing on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender members of the family. The same God that called the Jews out of Egypt and into freedom is at work today calling LGBTQ+ sisters and brothers into full membership, not only in the Church but all of society. Our own St. Michael’s member, Cary Gaunt, will share her journey and the ways her life and the lives of those nearest to her have opened up. The God that spoke in Biblical times is just as active today. Our job is to hear that voice and follow it. That is why we specifically hang the Pride flag in front of the Church during June. That is why we name and celebrate that liberating movement of God in the lives of LBGTQ+ folks on June 23rd and in the lives of African-Americans, women, Native Americans… and more, at other times. __________________________ CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRY PICNIC CELEBRATION, JUNE 23 All kids, teachers, helpers, parents and grandparents involved with St. Michael’s ministry with children and youth are invited to a special picnic in your honor. We want to celebrate all the wonderful things that have happened this year – Godly Play, Youth Forum, Choir School, Teen Discipleship and Acolyting. Please come to the Rectory Lawn after the 10:15 am service on Sunday, June 23 for food, fun and fellowship.
An invitation to reflect and join in prayer on this 75th anniversary of D-Day which marked a turning point in WWII. A prayer offered from Durham Cathedral: Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace, we give thanks for the fortitude and resilience of the people of the D-Day landings; may freedom from tyranny liberate our minds and our hearts to seek Peace in every generation and to put service before self, after the example of the same in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. RECOVERY SUNDAY IS THIS SUNDAY, MAY 26 Celebrating our 5th annual Recovery Sunday, we have invited Robert Stack, a drug and alcohol therapist at the Brattleboro Retreat for 29 years, to share his recovery through the 12 steps and to speak about the connection between spiritual renewal and long-term sobriety. On this special Sunday, we will celebrate God in action in people's lives and acknowledge that recovery comes in every shape and form. Instead of wine for Holy Communion, we will use grape juice for all on this day.

Orange is the color that Hadiya Pendleton’s friends wore in her honor when she was shot and killed in Chicago at the age of 15 — just one week after performing at President Obama’s 2nd inaugural parade in 2013.
